On November 3 and 4, Raytown High School’s forensics and debate team, The Talking Jays, went to Lee’s Summit North for a tournament.

It ended with no breaks to semifinals for the forensics competitors. Never ones to stay unhappy over losses, they bounced back and showed appreciation for their coach as well as the one debater who placed: Tanner Ludwig. Ludwig competes in Student Congress, where competitors form a ‘congress’ and debate would-be bills.

On the weekend of November 10, the varsity team moved on to compete at Raymore-Peculiar High School for an open tournament where varsity and novice team members could compete. Marloh Mayfield make it to semifinals in Prose Oral Interpretation (commonly referred to as POI). Rae DeBoe advanced to semifinals in Radio Speaking, Andrew Romero advanced in United States Extemporaneous Speaking and Rae DeBoe and Annaliza Bagunu placed third overall in Improvisational Duet Acting.

There is more to come for the Talking Jays as the semester winds down including a tournament hosted at Raytown High School.
